Young Carers
Could your child be a young carer?
We are working to update our records for children who could be classed as young carers. It is important for us to know who our young carers are so that we can monitor them closely in school and provide them with opportunities and support as and when this may be needed. This may include referring them to Kent Young Carers. A young carer is any person under the age of 18 who helps to look after a parent, sibling or any other relative living in their house who has a disability (including a diagnosed SEN), long term illness, mental health condition or a drug or alcohol addiction. Young carers may do extra jobs in and around the home, such as cooking, cleaning or helping someone get dressed and move around. They may also give a lot of physical help to a parent, brother or sister who's disabled or ill. Along with doing things to help their relatives, they may be giving siblings and their parents emotional support, too.
If you think your child may be a young carer, please let us know by emailing our office with the subject, ‘Young Carer’ so that the school’s pastoral team can look at updating our records. Updating our records means that we will be better able to raise awareness with the staff who work with your child.
