Welcome to our new school pets
We have chosen guinea pigs as our school pets for the following reasons:
- They are are easy to look after, so pupils can participate in activities to educate them about keeping pets
- They will help us enhance the curriculum, particularly when teaching pupils about nature and biology
- They have a calming and kind nature which will enhance pupil wellbeing
In accordance with the Animal Welfare Act 2006, the school is committed to fulfilling its obligation to ensure the animals’ needs are met. These needs include the following:
- The need for a suitable environment
- The need for a suitable diet
- The need to be able to exhibit normal behaviour patterns
- The need to be housed with, or away from any other animals
- The need to be protected from pain, suffering, injury and disease
A letter was sent home on 10th November which will outline all necessary information for parents and carers.
